IDF: Terrorists using human shields
Gaza terrorists firing rockets from densely populated areas, civilians hurt in Israeli strikes as result of Palestinian tactics, army says; some 25 Arabs killed in fighting so far.
Gaza terrorists firing rockets at Israel have been using local residents as human shields, thereby leading to civilian casualties in IDF strikes, the army charged Monday.
‘Civilians who were not taking part in hostilities have been wounded in an Air Force strike on a terrorist cell launching medium-range rockets from a populated area in the northern Gaza Strip,’ the IDF Spokesman’s Office said. ‘This incident demonstrates that terrorist groups in Gaza use human shields and fire rockets from densely populated areas.’
Earlier Monday, Palestinian sources reported that a strike aimed at a terror cell operating near a school in the northern Gaza Strip resulted in the death of a man and his daughter, who were passing nearby at the time of the attack. The IDF later confirmed the reporting, noting that only after the strike it became clear that Gaza civilians uninvolved in the fighting were hit.
Earlier, military officials said that the current round of fighting between the IDF and Gaza terrorists is increasingly appearing to be unprecedented in terms of the number of rockets directed at Israel. The IDF has registered some 200 rocket launches from Gaza and is characterizing the attacks as a ‘dramatic development in terms of the quantity and rate of the fire.’
Meanwhile, Palestinian sources said that since the latest round of violence in the Gaza region began, some 25 Palestinians were killed in IDF attacks and dozens more were wounded.
In Israel, Magen David Avrom ambulance teams have treated 35 people since Friday. One person was seriously injured, another sustained moderate injuries and a third person was lightly wounded by rocket shrapnel.
Overall, 21 people suffered from shock and another 11 were injured while rushing to fortified areas.
